The Healing Process for Semi-Permanent Makeup

Updated: Aug 22, 2022

Have you ever wondered how long your lips and brows take to heal? Which aftercare should I apply for? When can I see the final result? Below is an explanation of the healing process when you’ve had semi-permanent makeup treatment.

Semi-permanent makeup heals completely within 4-6 weeks. Depending on the outcome, colour and shape - you may need a top-up. After the procedure, you may experience a few mild to moderate symptoms which include redness and swelling in the area. There may be slight bruising also. This generally goes away within a few days and most of the time symptoms are minimal and the healing process runs smoothly. If you do experience any redness and/or swelling a clean cold compression can be used to reduce any discomfort.

The following adviser for aftercare will ensure you the best healing possible and will prevent any infections/ complications.

Aftercare for Brows and Lips

  • Use aftercare balm (given by practitioner).

  • Keep the area dry and clean.

  • Do not pick or rub the area - let dry skin and scabs naturally exfoliate away (picking can cause loss of colour/ infection and scarring.

  • Use fresh bedding and towels after the treatment.

  • No Botox, facials, microdermabrasion or chemical peels for 1 month.

  • Avoid sunscreen and topical makeup.

  • Avoid swimming, spas and hot tubs for the first 10 days.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure, sunbeds and tanning products for 1 month after the procedure.

  • Avoid sleeping facedown for the first 10 days.

  • Long showers are not advisable for the first 10 days.

  • Exercise isn’t advisable for the first 10 days (as you will get hot and sweaty).

REMINDER!

Be kind to yourself - healing takes time, care and attention.

Best wishes,

The Semi-Permanent Makeup Artist
